NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY REQUIREMENTS
TO MAINTAIN MEMBERSHIP

SCHOLARSHIP

Cadets must maintain a 3.5 grade point average.

If a cadet falls below the required grade point average, he is on probation. The cadet then has one nine week period to return the average to the required level or submit his resignation.

SERVICE

Cadets must perform and document 20 hours of service approved by the Faculty Council during the school year or resign from the NHS.

CHARACTER

If a cadet is suspended from the academy, he or she is on probation. Any future suspension will require the resignation of the cadet.

All DMA members must support and participate in our NHS events.

All DMA members will continue to demonstrate and adhere to the selection critera - Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character - of the National Honor Society.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The Delaware Military Academy follows the National Honor Society selection procedures as well as the following procedures specific to our academy.

1. The selection procedure is determined by the Faculty Council and subject to the approval of the Commandant. The Commandant appoints the Faculty Advisor and five teachers to the Faculty Council.

2. After the third nine weeks, cadets' academic records should be reviewed to determine scholastic eligibility. A minimum grade point average of 3.5 is required.

3. Students who are eligible scholastically are notified and told that for futher consideration they may complete the National Honor Society application form.

4. All faculty members are invited to make comments on candidates; however, the actual selections must be made by the five appointed members of the Faculty Council.

5. The Faculty Council reviews the student application forms, along with any other verifiable information about each candidate and his or her activities which define the candidate's leadership, service, and character.

6. Candidates receiving a consensus or majority vote of the Faculty Council are then recommended to the Commandant. The approved candidates will be announced at the annual Awards Ceremony. the Induction Ceremony will be held in the fall.

7. Candidates who are not selected will receive a letter from the Commandant.

8. Any appeals in cases of non-selection will be directed to the Commandant.
