Subject: ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET for the DELAWARE MILITARY ACADEMY 2008
On Friday, May 2, 2008 we will be holding our fifth Annual Awards Banquet and Cadet Change of Command at the Doubletree Hotel, 700 King Street, Wilmington, DE. This event is a major one in the life of our school and its Navy JROTC Program. Though cadets are not required to attend this event, they are highly encouraged to do so. We hope that many parents/guardians will attend as well as many staff members. Dress for the event is Summer Blues for cadets (cadets must be in uniform) and appropriate “out to fancy dinner” clothes for guests (coat and tie suggested for gentlemen).
Many cadets will be receiving end of the year awards and this will certainly be a wonderful time for us to celebrate the completion of the fifth year of our academy. We have found a new venue in the Downtown Wilmington Doubletree Hotel and are offering the dinner at a better price than last year ($5 less) and a much better meal than last year – we’ve taste tested it and see that there will be more to each serving that before. This evening is also the time we announce our battalion staff for the year to come. Company staff can’t be determined until we return to school in the fall and determine who is in which company.
Tickets are now available for sale on a first-come, first-served basis. Please plan to purchase your tickets early as you will choose your table at the time of purchase. Table seating will be for 10 guests per table. If you choose to sit with others, their early purchase will ensure you can sit together. As in the past, I am always willing to exchange tickets and move you to accommodate a change in your party size. However this will mean moving father back from the proceedings to a table that is available. Please note, some cadets of more senior rank may be assigned to sit apart from their families as they will assist in hosting dignitaries / award presenters for the evening.
Also at the time of purchase, you/your cadet will need to indicate which of the two entrees they desire for each ticket: the lemon chicken or the ravioli (both excellent choices by my tasting).
We intend for this event to be a classy one in keeping with our concepts that have guided us in planning for our Military Ball and other events that we arrange. Cost of tickets this year will be $30.00 per person. This is not an event at which small

children would be comfortable, though guests from middle school age and up are encouraged. There is no price difference for adults and children.
Though we hope many cadets will receive awards, there will be some that have not earned one and may not receive an award that night. We will not publish the “receiving/not receiving” awards list in advance, so the expectation is that cadets and families attend the banquet to enjoy a formal dinner out, to share in the celebration of our academy and its NJROTC program, and to congratulate those who are being awarded something. At this event we have outside military and retired-military groups which also provide awards for our cadets.
We look forward to a fun and festive evening together.
